Description
The toponym “Schioppo”, with small variations, is found in the whole territory of Spoleto, in items as Scoppio, Colle Schiopponi, Scoppiato, Scoppo Corvaro, deriving from the Latin “scopolum” (rock).
It is a transit village, in the municipality of Scheggino, on the road to Spoleto, leaning against a large rock, looming vertically on the small settlement.
It consists of a compact nucleus, made up of houses and stables, developing around the parish church of San Nicola. It is dominated by a pigeon tower of remarkable dimensions, damaged by recent earthquakes
