Description
Cerasola was a relay village on the slopes of a hill at the crossroads of two mountain pathways: the first running from north to south links Biselli and Torre Argentigli to Rocca Tervi and then continues to Cascia; the second runs from west to east and is the previously mentioned link between Ponte and Norcia. There is no question about how old the two paths are due to the presence of the two fortified enclosures of Torre Argentigli and Colle Puria and for various finds (at Church San Benedetto and at Santa Maria di Rocca Tervi) with Roman inscriptions.
The settlement was finally abandoned after the earthquake of 1964 and is now used exclusively for agricultural purposes (cowsheds, storage and haylofts). The inhabitants have moved to a recently built village higher up; a double row of a series of single, terraced houses; no attempt was made to save the old town centre, nor were any new buildings built around the old construction. In fact, no better solution was found to adapt the site than to artificially flatten the hill overlooking the old settlement.
