Description
Due to the rock stratifications, the grotto floor is wearing away towards the outside, thus forming a sort of natural amphitheatre, above Roccaporena. Inside, there is a two-layered ledge, on which it is said Rita prayed.
The Cave of gold is not dark, nor is it excessively lit. A transparent, soft half-light reigns here, protected by the embrace of the mighty walls. Ancient legends tell the story of how the cave was home to a woman oracle and that the prophetic nymph or semi-goddess Porrina gave her name to the place.
