Description
Originally “villa Scei”, this village stretches along the road that crosses Onelli and joins the ancient road of Monteleone - Villa S. Silvestro.
The villages of Sciedi and Onelli face from north to south and confirm the how long this path has existed that was once an alternative to the more comfortable valley road (Valle dell’Immaginetta, Valle Pianella). In this case the towns were built in a prominent position on ancient mountain paths along the hill tops and crests that were later put out of use by the main roads along the valley bottom or half way up the hill.
The old road rises steeply to Sciedi and enters the town from the north near a farmhouse built on what remains of a mediaeval watch-tower with a wide, artificial terrace stretching out in front. The town stretches along the road that runs parallel to the hills above the plateau.
The road rises steeply from Sciedi towards Onelli and cuts through the altitude lines according to the path which is easily recognisable particularly above the town, thanks to the presence of long stretches of a solid wall made of large, well-joined blocks.
