Description
It currently resembles a village even though its position on the slopes of La Cimata, the compact structure of the settlement and the existence of a Castrum Butii mentioned in source materials as far back as 1024, would suggest an ancient castle that has lost its original features as a fortified town. Another hypothesis is suggested by the alignment of the village along an arterial road that points northwards towards a small hill instead of being sited along the main road, as was customary in villages. In this case today’s village was a sort of hamlet around the Castrum Butii, overlooking it from the hill behind. Inside the village there is an unusual cow shed below a double level of hay lofts and with separate access on either side of the building.
Typical of the environment in Buda are the large, oval-shaped, hedged enclosures on the outskirts of the village. One of the most famous stonemasons Nicola Zabaglia (18th century) came from Buda.
