Sant`Anatolia di Narco - The little lake of Gavelli
Lenght: Km 4 (Round trips)
Difficulty: Medium
Duration: From 2 to 4 hours
Interesting: Nature - Hike
From the little square in Gavelli, an ancient castle in the shape of an eyrie, take the SP 471 to the right towards Monteleone di Spoleto. Continue along the tarmac road for approx 1 km and then turn downhill to the right along the rural road lined with oak trees. Continue downhill and after crossing a little bridge, continue straight on along the well-trodden path. When you reach a turning on your left, leave the dirt track and continue straight uphill. Then turn left towards a group of oak trees along the path. Follow the well-trodden path as far as a group of pine trees which mark the arrival point: the lake of Gavelli. This stretch of water is one of the few natural, mountain ponds in Umbria, the only one at a height of 1,126 m a.s.l.
The area has a refreshment stand and a games area for children. From here take care to keep to the well-trodden track and you will be able to follow several paths which will enable you to discover the imposing beech woods of the area. To return to Gavelli take the SP 471 towards S. Anatolia di Narco. The village and the frescoes in its churches are well worth a visit.
