Go to the car park near Porta Spoletina, cross it and take the road on the far side. From here bear left downhill. Follow the road as far as the oak tree at the roadside and turn right here on to a steep path flanked by dry-stone walls and hedges in the direction of Casale Colle I Toteri to your left. Continue along the path until you cross a stream. Keep to the right and walk straight along the dirt track, keeping the fountain on your right. From here go past two forks keeping to the wide dirt road. After a gentle climb you reach the fountain where you turn right and follow the sign for “Colle del Capitano – the place in which the chariot was found”. Continue along the wide, dirt road as far as the archaeological site of Colle del Capitano. The Chariot from the 6th century B.C. was discovered here beneath the farmyard and a reproduction of it can be seen in the Church of S. Francesco in Monteleone. The ancient necropolis also lies nearby. Retrace your steps in order to return to Monteleone.
