Preci Outing in Saccovescio
Lenght: Km 3,5 (Ruond Trips)
Difficulty: Beginners
Duration: Less then a 2 hours
Interesting: Nature
The starting point for this easy, circular route is in Castelvecchio near the car park before you enter the town. From here a clearly visible, carriage road on the right leads uphill for little more than 1 km, along the north-west side of Mount San Pietro (812 m a.s.l.) as far as Saccovescio. The welcoming, little square of the village in front of the church of Sacro Cuore invites you to take a rest at one of the convenient, wooden tables, so you can gaze at the landscape of the mountains in the Valnerina. Walk from the square along Viale della Madonna della Neve to reach the church of the same name, where there is a park full of fun facilities for little children. After your visit, retrace your steps back down to Castelvecchio. You can make a detour for a visit to the little church of Santa Maria della Cona (16th century), also known as the Madonna dell’Icona or Madonna della Posatoro, with an ancient fountain nearby. On the 9th March every year the Festival of the Souls is held at the church of the Cona, in remembrance of the bygone destruction of the village of Monte San Martino and the subsequent dislocation of the inhabitants between Corone, Saccovescio and Castevecchio. Back on the path, continue towards Castelecchio, the ancient, hillock castle guarding the valley.
How to get there
When you get to the SP 476, turn left towards Cerreto-Visso and after approx. 500 m turn right for Case Sparse and Castelvecchio.
