Preci - To the Church of St. Spes
Lenght: Km 3,2 (Circular Walks)
Difficulty: Medium
Duration: Less then a 2 hours
Interesting: Nature - Hike
Leave the little square in Borgo Preci by the wooden shelter for the Sibillini Park and walk towards Norcia for approx. 50 m. When you get to a newspaper and shoe shop, turn left and climb steeply up the slopes of Mount Morricone. Continue uphill and at the fork marked by a concrete wall on the left, keep to the right and go uphill. The first 500 metres on a dirt track with a one in five gradient should be taken slowly. Once past this stretch, continue straight along a path flanked by rows of oak trees and at the fork bear left and follow the trail signs. Continue until the hedges give way to reveal the panorama from Preci overlooking the Val Castoriana. Continue past Casale Carocci and go down past the automatic bar where you turn right and follow the signs to visit the Church of Santo Spes that belonged to a number of Syrian monks who settled with Sant’Eutizio in the caves of the Val Castoriana in about the 5th century. From Santo Spes walk back to the fork and turn right. A few metres further on, before you get to the no entry sign, turn right on the mule track for about 1.5 km amidst rows of centuries-old oak trees. At the bottom of the hill go over a little bridge over a stream and keep right back to the SP 476. Turn right to return to your starting point.
How to get there
From the bypass go down Via de Gasperi and then turn right on to the sp 476 towards Norcia. Park your car at Borgo Preci.
