Norcia - Nature built by man
Lenght: Km 6,5 (Round trips)
Difficulty: Beginners
Duration: From 2 to 4 hours
Interesting: Cultural - Nature
From the car park at Porta Ascolana opposite the High School, go left towards the steps and turn right into Viale Europa towards the hospital. At the crossroads turn left past the hospital on your right and walk straight on for 1.2 km on the main road as far as a fork at Madonna Bella. Here you’ll find one of the many little roadside shrines, holy pictures that are typical of the countryside around Norcia. Turn left at the shrine and go uphill for about 800 m. Turn right at the crossroads and follow the sign for a holiday farmhouse accommodation. Go past the latter and almost at the end of the slope turn right at the crossroads to reach Casale Funari, from where you can enjoy a superb view both to the east with Mount Fusconi (1,796 m) and Mount Vetica (1,714 m), and towards the west with the church towers of the churches of Norcia. From Casale Funari walk about 1 km on a dirt track and when you come to a fountain, turn right back on to the tarmac road which leads first to the fork where the holy picture of the Madonna del Quattrino is housed, after which keep right and retrace your steps back to the car.
How to get there:
Exit from the SS 209 Valnerina at Serravalle and follow the SS 396, then turn on to the Bypass as far as Porta Ascolana
